"We are a city-based introductory service connecting residents to refugees through small acts of kindness, inclusion and friendship. Once introduced by HostNation, it’s up to our befrienders and their refugee friends to make plans and to meet up to participate in city life. We ask for a weekly commitment of meeting face-to-face over three months, but many matches become firm friends. HostNation NW is here to help asylum seekers and refugees practise their English, integrate, participate in city life and feel more at home in Manchester. We’re about welcome and 1-1 friendship. We make matches based on geography, age, gender and interests and well over 80% of the matches we have made have had positive and sustained outcomes - some tell us they're friends for life! 84% of the refugees and asylum seekers we match say that they felt better, more positive and happier after knowing their friend for three months."
