Offers services to people who are homeless, in poverty or facing debt crisis. The Brick are the delivery partners for A.B.E.N. and operate over 3 locations in Wigan and Leigh offering a bed, a hot meal, a hot shower, and someone who can give them help and support to move off the streets.

The services run by the Brick Project include the Crisis Intervention Service and Wigan’s largest Food Bank.

The Brick also operates statutory tendered projects offering support to people in their tenancies; ensuring people newly homeless move quickly into accommodation, and ensuring that homeless people receive good health care and support if in hospital.

Brick Project - Brick Food

Last updated 02/04/25

We operate a Food Community in the heart of Wigan at St Georges Church, Water Street.

We are not a food bank, although we do sometimes provide emergency food; but we believe in the right to good, healthy nutritional food that starts with choice and dignity.

Our food community is laid out like a shop and members can choose their items for a small fee including fresh, refrigerated, frozen and long-life foods.

As well as affordable food, our members can access additional support and signposting services. We run free of charge cookery classes in partnership with Wigan Council and Safer Streets.

How to access:

To sign up to be a member of our food Community, all you need to do is visit us at St Georges Church and let one of our team know it’s your first time.

We will then get you a form to fill in and explain all about how the community works. All you need to do bring £5 for your annual membership fee, and a couple of shopping bags to put your £5 shop in and then start shopping. It’s as simple as that!

Once you’re a member you can come along to the Food Community once a week and fill up your basket. There are also free of charge optional extras available such as cleaning products and sanitary products

We provide vocational training and personal development in a social enterprise workspace for people at risk of or experiencing homelessness and/or financial vulnerability

This project is underpinned by 3 key outcomes for people: improved financial stability, improved support networks and improved engagement with meaningful activities.

Services include:

• We work very closely with our business community to find placements and work experience for people that we support ranging from taster days through to placements of 1-2 days a week.

• We provide career and interview coaching, building confidence and a pathway to independence.
