Positive Cycles

Positive Cycles - Oldham

Last updated 19/05/24

"Positive Cycles started in April 2015 as a community-based project delivering affordable bikes to local people. Since then the project has grown and grown with the fundamentals of recycling and encouraging more people to take up cycling remaining strong. We take old bikes, clean them up and then our volunteers and groups of young people fix them, gaining AQA qualifications in the process. The newly-refurbished bikes are then donated to local families, used in conjunction with the Transport for Greater Manchester or sold with all profits being churned directly back into the Positive Cycles project to buy better equipment and parts. The workshop is also used by the Oldham Youth Justice Service as part of the unpaid community work of young offenders. The young people are involved in cleaning and fixing donated bikes and making sure they are roadworthy and ready to be resold. In doing this they gain valuable experience and qualifications. We also offer AQA-accredited Bike Maintenance courses to individuals and groups."
