The Hope Service

The Hope service is an NHS service which helps asylum seekers, refugees and victims of trafficking who have experienced trauma in adulthood and have a primary diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The people we support have often experienced multiple traumas in their home country and on their journey to the UK. They may face other practical challenges, for example unstable housing, poverty and discrimination. The care pathway within the service involves Moving On After Trauma (MOAT) groups and one-to-one specialist trauma-focused psychological support. We also provide wellbeing initiatives, such as a walking group and art group. These are run by our recovery coordinators, working with voluntary sector partners where possible. We work closely with Bristol Refugee Rights, Borderlands, Mind and Unseen to ensure our service users receive specialist support across their different needs.

1:1 Therapy

After the MOAT group, people can have one-to-one sessions with a therapist. We help people manage their difficulties and out their memories in the past. We always use interpreters if people need them. All our work is confidential and we work both in the community and in NHS buildings.

Moving On After Trauma (MOAT)

Last updated 06/12/24

We offer groups to help people understand how trauma affects them. We teach people skills to manage their symptoms and help them feel better. For example, to sleep better, to feel more relaxed and to have fewer flashbacks. We accept referrals from Vitaminds: 0333 200 1893 or www.vitahealthgroup.co.uk. You can ask your support worker or GP for help with the referral. Care Coordinators at AWP can also refer you directly.
