Maternity Action
Maternity Action is the UK’s maternity rights charity dedicated to promoting, protecting and enhancing the rights of all pregnant women, new mothers and their families to employment, social security and health care.
We a provide a variety of resources including:
- Information sheets
- Free legal advice
- Casework
- Peer support
- Free help for employers
- Reports
- Training
We also provide a NHS maternity charging service. Maternity Action’s NHS charging team is the only specialist advice service that provides free legal advice and representation to women who’ve been charged for their NHS maternity care.
The service is open to all women who have been charged, their partners, friends and family, midwives, other health professionals and advisers.

Maternity Action
Maternity Action is a charity advocating for the rights of pregnant women and new mothers.
Our Women from Abroad project supports migrant women with advice on maternity rights, healthcare access, and financial support. We assist migrant women, including asylum seekers and refugees, who are pregnant or new mothers. We provide support in a variety of ways including online information sheets, peer support and our Maternity Rights Advice Line.

Migrant Women Housing and Support Advice Service
We have launched a dedicated Migrant Women Housing and Support Advice Service for pregnant women and new mothers across the Greater Manchester and Cheshire East region.
We can provide advice on a range of issues including:
• Housing and support for asylum seekers including who qualifies and how to apply
• Advice on what to do if there are delays in receiving Home Office support
• Advice for women who have No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF)
• Advice on maternity provisions, maternity grants and other payments for migrant and asylum seeking women
• Advice for women who are survivors of trafficking and domestic abuse
• Advice on adding a new dependent to a person’s Home Office support
• Advice for pregnant women who are living in unsuitable Home Office accommodation or in hotels
• Advice about NHS charges for maternity care and children’s care
The service provides free and confidential advice on entitlements to housing and support for migrant and asylum seeking women in Greater Manchester and Cheshire East.
